The festivities for the 20th anniversary of armarcord reached their long-awaited peak on 5 October with a gala concert in the Great Hall of the Leipzig Gewandhaus where the artists gave a musical review of their unique career. Their concerts are acclaimed all over the world. Even the Sydney Morning Herald recently went into raptures: „The vowel sounds have beautiful purity“. The Süddeutsche Zeitung got to the point: „Five voices, one sound“. The programme in the Gewandhaus featured highlights of the quintet’s broad repertoire as well as the world premiere of Bernd Franke’s opus „Questions“. The „anniversary year“ will be crowned with a performance at the ECHO Classical gala in the Berlin Concert Hall, where amarcord will receive the cherished ECHO Classical award by the German Phono-Akademie as vocal ensemble of the year.
